CREATIVE WRITING: WORD PLAY
One Word - 30 SecondsSelect a word of the day online or open a dictionary, close your eyes, and pick a random word. Write about the word. Go on, see how much you can write about one word in thirty seconds. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s great or silly or you think it’s a beautiful word that everyone should use in every conversation. Write about what it makes you think about, how it makes you feel, why it would be useful, etc.

One Letter - Many WordsPick any letter of the alphabet or the one that your name begins with; then write down a list of at least 8 different words that begin with that letter.
|
One Sense - 60 SecondsSit down and pick ONE of your senses–sight, smell, hearing, taste, or touch. Then describe everything you feel with that sense, right now. Do you see the sky out of the window and your dogs on the sofa? Do you hear the clock ticking and traffic outside? Whichever sense you choose, write down as much detail as possible in 60 seconds. Go!

50 Questions (or Less)Create a paragraph of nothing but questions that you have about life, the world, the universe. What questions do you wish you had the answers to? It can be themed, or you can just add random questions. Write at least 10 questions to form your paragraph.
Why do I dream crazy dreams? Why does that evil bird outside my window always wake me before my alarm goes off? Why does Harley suddenly appear when I crack an egg or open a chip bag or a box of cereal? Why does it begin to lightning just when I get into the pool? Will there be a second season of Outer Banks on Netflix? What did I ever do without Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+? What should I read next? How many people does it really take to change a lightbulb? Did the chicken even need to cross the road? When will this virus end so we can return to normal?
